Description: The Parramatta Park Trust proposes to make improvements to Parramatta Park to improve accessibility, amenity and safety. The improvements include the upgrade of existing pedestrian pathways, upgrade and realignment of existing stairs to facilitate safe egress from major outdoor events held in the Crescent amphitheatre, and lighting pathways and stairs to improve visibility. The proposal also includes upgrading existing fencing, new fencing, landscaping and environmental restoration works. The design considers the Aboriginal and European heritage significance, and the ecological significance of the site.
The Park is a cultural landscape of National significance and is inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List and is also listed on the National Heritage List and on the State Heritage Register.
The proposed accessibility improvements are Stage 2 of improvements to The Crescent. Stage 1 involved earthworks and paving to improve usability of the lower level of the Crescent and is complete. Stage 2 works include:· a) Replacement of existing stairs with new steel framed, sandstone tread stairs;
· b) Replacement of existing picket wire fencing with rural style timber fencing;
· c) Widening existing decomposed granite paths;
· d) Installation of feature lighting;
· e) Installing concrete ramp and lighting; and
· f) Associated landscaping works.
