HERITAGE NEW ZEALAND. THAMES SCHOOL OF MINES STRENGTHENING WORKS DETAILS.
RFx ID: 4028469. Reference #: TSOM2014.
Close Date: Friday, 19 September 2014 at 12:00pm.
Tender Type: Request for Tenders (RFT)
Overview: TSOM2014. This interesting construction project is at the Category I heritage listed Thames School of Mines in Thames, Coromandel. The proposed works will:· Repair and strengthen under floor foundation details at the Mineral Museum,
· involve a pre-fabricated bracing sleeve to be inserted into the chimney in the Experimental Plant Building, and
· fabrication and installation of site fencing and gates to final detail.
Appropriate Building and Resource consents and an Archaeological Authority have been granted
The buildings and site are of special character and operate as a museum. Although we will close the buildings in question during the works, other parts of the site will remain open to the public during the construction period.
Due to previous use as a technical school to teach mining theory with practical applications, the site is contaminated with chemical residues of early mining processes. Heritage New Zealand commissioned a site management plan to deliver the tendered works (attached), and the successful tenderer will need to incorporate this information into their own specific site safety plan.
Additionally, this site has archaeological values and is of significance to Maori. All earthworks need to be monitored by Iwi and an Archaeologist which Heritage New Zealand will manage outside of this contract but the successful Contractor will be required to liaise with the Archaeologist and Iwi at agreed times. Monitoring obligations are set out in the approved Archaeological Authority (attached).

The notification system, easy access to tender information, notice to tender notifications and deadline reminders are instrumental to our success in bidding.
The TenderLink solution is an unbelievable time saver. With it on board, we've been able to hold our staff levels based on our increased productivity.
The use of examples and practical exercises really reinforced the messages. Even though I have many years' experience and probably employ about 90% of what Philip touched on, it was a great refresher for me and has given me a few extra little tips to do better.
