GREY DISTRICT COUNCIL. INFORMAL TRADING TENDER.
Council wants the Town Square to be a vibrant part of the Greymouth CBD and recently approved the use of two carpark spaces in Tainui Shared Street (part Tainui Street between Mackay Street and Mawhera Quay) for informal trading as part of the Trading in Public Places Bylaw review.
A public consultation process is currently underway to permanently stop part Tainui Street (as described above). If this proceeds, the street will be formally incorporated into the Town Square, making it one large open area for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. It is expected that should this happen, the area will then be used more frequently for community events and that informal trading may be happening on a regular basis. Submissions on this matter close on 20 April 2018 and Council expects to determine the outcome of this consultation at its June 2018 meeting. You can read more here.
Until a final decision is made, the street remains open to vehicular traffic. In the interim, Council is offering two sites in Tainui Shared Street to be used for informal trading by appropriate vendors on a short term basis. This tender is based on the same vendor having exclusive use of the relevant site/s until 30 June 2018, ie up to two vendors.
It should be noted that the conditions outlined in this document will apply until 30 June 2018 only. After that time, and after a final decision is made on the proposed road stopping of part Tainui Street, Council will revisit the matter of informal trading in the Town Square, including the future use of these spaces by interested traders.
Please read full details on the tender document.
Tenders should be submitted to Council by 12 noon on Thursday 12 April 2018.
